5 Things to Look for When Buying a Luxury Vacation Home

There are many aspects to consider when purchasing a secondary home or a vacation home—especially a luxury vacation home—from the aesthetics of the space to the location and so much more. We’ve rounded up a few of the most important aspects to consider throughout your search for the perfect vacation home.
Top-of-the-line amenities
Think about the aspects of a property that excite you when you’re on vacation: a chef’s kitchen with premium appliances, a hot tub, a rooftop deck, or more fun amenities are great to look for throughout your search and will be a big standout for potential guests.
Modern turnkey property
Although the décor and design will obviously change, a great luxury vacation home is ideally move-in ready, with minimal updates or repairs needed. Styles of homes can certainly vary, but you’ll want to look for a house with an overall modern feel. If you have a larger budget to make property improvements, look for a house with the architecture and floor plan that you desire.
Optimal location
If you’re seeking a beach home, is it walkable to the beach or a 10-minute drive to the beach? If you’re seeking a ski home, does it boast ski-in, ski-out access or are the lifts a bus ride away? Typically, the closer to area amenities a home is, the better. If it’s not so close, ensure there are convenient ways to get there.
Perfect for photographing
Beyond just being aesthetically pleasing, it’s important for your vacation home to photograph well—potential guests of the home will appreciate a space that’s well lit, with photos that accurately depict the space. The way the house faces—east or west is considered the most optimal—may be something to keep in mind, too.
Market growth
The real estate market is hot right now, especially in certain parts of the country. The demand for vacation rentals is also growing—people want to make up for lost time and get back to vacationing. Keep an eye on market trends to decide where to purchase your home: Some of the most popular growing destinations to buy in right now include Palm Springs, California; Big Sky, Montana; and Seaside, Oregon.
